Today’s post is going to be short and sweet, but I know will be helpful to anyone who gives it a go.
The world is a stressful place right now, and a lot of us are being consumed by it all. When I get overwhelmed, or even when my mind is just racing at night, this is a breathing exercise that helps me. I picture it in my head, breathe along with it, and it mellows me out. Try it out any time you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck inside your own head. Try it out now!

With the new year starting, we all normally have some sort of “New Years Resolution,” even if it’s subconsciously. This is a time I normally (ya know, pre shutdown,) see an influx in gym-goers. And I LOVE to see it. With resources currently being limited, I wanted to provide you ladies with a list of fairly minor changes that could sprout bigger changes down the road.
There’s no greater time to put your health first. 1. Cut sodas. Cutting sodas is top of the list because it has made such a change for me. I feel SO much better without sodas. If you don’t want to cut 100%, just cut back to 1 or 2 less a day! 2. Drink more water. Staying hydrated with good ol H2O will give you tons of energy! At first when you up your water intake, you’ll feel bloated. That feeling will go away by the end of the day, I promise. Fill a water bottle, set it on your desk, and take a drink any time you even glance at the bottle or think about water! 3. Stretch before work. This one may sound silly but stretching before work, even just for five minutes, makes a world of difference for me. Without stretching, I feel groggy and very ‘not today.’ But when I stretch, I’m refreshed and ready to kick the days butt! 4. Eat breakfast. I’ve heard many people say “yeah, I’m just not a breakfast person.” But breakfast really is the meal that sets your day up for success! Grab a quick English muffin and banana on your way out of the house! 5. Sleep! I love this one! Sleep is more important than people think. I know some people can’t control their sleep, like moms. But if you can, try going to sleep just 30 minutes earlier. Waking up and thinking “I slept so good last night,” is yet another way to start your day out on the right side of the bed. These are just a few changes that I made to better my health that didn’t require me going out and buying anything, besides groceries which I do anyways! Here’s to 2021, and bettering ourselves FOR ourselves. I know you’ve heard it before. But if you haven’t, I’m here to tell you: STOP WEIGHING YOURSELF!
According to the Office on Women’s Health, 1 in 5 women will present with mental health issues. That is a big statistic. And though nothing is wrong with being the 1 in 5, We HAVE to stop letting society push us into those issues. We have to stop letting media tell us what we should look like, and tell us what a ‘healthy weight,’ is. Did you know that muscle weighs more than fat? One cup of fat weighs 7.5oz, whereas one cup of muscle weighs 9.7oz. Read that again. This means while you are working out with the intention to lose weight, your scale number may not change at all. It actually COULD go up. And that doesn’t mean you’re not making progress, because just getting up and getting moving is progress itself. BUT, while you’re working out and burning fat, you’re building muscle too, girl! If you wake up, and the first thought that pops in your head is in wonder what I weigh today,’ you are setting your brain up for a bad day. You are stressing yourself before you even weigh yourself. That could very easily take you down the depressive rabbit hole of ‘why is it not moving down,’ or ‘why have I been stagnant three weeks.’ Please, don’t do that to yourself. Want to track your progress in a healthy way? I got you, girl. Get you a tailor tape measure (you know what I’m talking about, the flimsy one.) Measure your chest, waist, hips, and glutes. Don’t do this every day, because that isn’t healthy either. I’m talking once every other week. Another way to track progress, and my favorite, TAKE PICTURES! The trick is making sure you’re in the same clothes, same lighting, and same angle every time so you can accurately compare. To wrap up, I wanted to say that not all progress is incredibly apparent. And that is fine, because what matters most is that you’re working toward your goal, and I guarantee you’re feeling better. Right? Hello beautiful ladies! Welcome to my first blog. Although my posts will mostly revolve around fitness and self love, I won’t tie myself to that. This being said, I decided I wanted my first blog here to be about something that is top priority for me: loving yourself along the way. I recently did a boudoir shoot with a photographer, KBM photography, that happens to be one of my best friends. Every time she offers a boudoir shoot, I jump on it. The first time, I was nervous. I loved it, I had fun, but I was really in a shell. I was insecure about my body, didn’t feel comfy in my own skin. The second shoot, NO ONE COULD STOP ME. Ironically, I didn’t look much different between the two shoots. But I sure felt different. I was talking to the photographer about the difference in the shoots, and how I radiated the second shoot compared to the first. You know the difference? In that 6 months, I had decided to love myself all the way through my journey. The shoot I did where I was glowing, and felt beautiful, and had the absolute most fun doing, it was all because I loved myself. I shared a few of the photographers posts, and got more than a few messages saying “I so wish I could but I’m not where I want to be yet,” or “I just want to lose a few more pounds.” Which, I’m all for goals, sister! We love goals over here. But what’s more important than goals is loving yourself along the way. Love yourself NOW. Goals are important, and I’m all for wanting to lead a healthy life. But please remember how important it is to love your body now. Because once you hit that goal, you’re going to make a new one, and again, and again. It’s so important to love every inch of your beautiful body along the way, and don’t wait for things. If you want to get photos done, DO IT. Because when you lose that ten pounds, you can do those photos again. You only get one body, and you’ll find that once you love that body, you radiate confidence. |
