Hey Babes!
Let me start off by saying what an honor it was being asked to share some of my experience as a female member of the United States military during the month of July! So I’m grateful for the opportunity! My name is Destinee and I’m a 27 year old wife and mother from Louisville, Ky. When I was 18 I decided since I could no longer pay my rent (I was definitely not moving back in with my parents) that I was going to join the Navy! No experience, expectations, or knowledge of what would soon become some of my hardest years so far. I joined in 2011 and signed a 6 year contract, in that time I had made life long friends, met the love of my life, had children, deployed, got the highest qualifications I could for my rank, and made memories (with a few nightmares) that will last me forever. In 2017 my time was ending and I had contemplated re-enlisting but ultimately decided on separating from the navy and perusing college, its free if you serve! As of June 2020 I have earned my degree and certification in Surgical technology. As a woman, mom, wife and human the military had a major impact on my life. Everything from being punctual to having a much bigger world view than most people have, it effects the decisions I make and how my husband and I choose to parent and teach our children. A day never really goes by where I don’t look back on a situation because I’ve experienced it before or being thankful my time as it made making a choice easier. People look at you differently and hold you to an expectation that I appreciate because it makes me a better person. As I said it was one of the more challenging times in my life but I would never trade the life experience that I gained during those years. I was a female United States Sailor, we have a set of core values and I will always uphold and carry on those values.
